Safer communities
Crime has fallen by a third under Labour since 1997. In Chester, neighbourhood policing teams helped to make people feel safer, improved response times and increased public confidence in policing. The latest crime figures for Chester show a significant drop of 13% in the last year.
Better healthcare
Labour’s investment to transform the NHS has delivered thousands of extra nurses and doctors. A record number of patients were treated at the Countess of Chester Hospital last year. Waiting times are at an all-time low. A new NHS out-of-hours service run by local GPs, open seven days a week, now operates alongside the A&E unit at the Hospital.
More help for children and families
More teachers and classroom assistants have cut class sizes and helped more young people to get better exam results. An expansion of childcare and free nursery places, after school clubs and extended paid maternity and paternity leave have helped parents to better balance their working lives with their family responsibilities.
