Greedy Town Hall Tories | |
Labour Group Leader John Price has accused the Tories of breathtaking arrogance and greed by voting themselves huge pay rises backdated to May last year. Speaking after Wednesday's meeting of the Full Council, Cllr Price said: "The level of Members Allowances is always an emotional issue with members of the public. To address this, the Council has relied on independent advice before decisions are made. This year the Town Hall Tories have arrogantly dismissed the advice of the independent panel who recommended that there is no evidence to support these rises." Cllr Price added: "The hypocrisy of the Tories knows no boundaries. When the Tories were out of power they sought to impose financial caps on Labour and Liberal group members, however when in power they pay themselves more money. The independent panel made up of people from outside of the Council takes a great deal of time to reach a consensus on remuneration based on a building block approach to responsibilities. The Tories have demonstrated a greedy self-serving 'noses in the trough' approach that will undermine public perceptions of why allowances are paid."
